Pharmacy Technician

Join our team of talented herbal enthusiasts and customer service pro's in our bustling herbal pharmacy. We're looking for someone with Western or Chinese medicine training, either a student or licensed practitioner. 

Hours: 20 hours per week minimum; flexible schedule, however must be available at least 3 Saturday shifts per month to start the job.

Reports to: Pharmacy Manager 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

This role intersects working with plants and supporting people, addressing health concerns and providing excellent customer service while attending carefully to the details of filling herbal prescriptions. Some lifting and physical activity required.

Responsibilities & Tasks 

  • Retail salesperson in a busy community herb shop 

  • Communicating with practitioners and their patients 

  • Filling custom compounds in tincture, raw herb, and granule forms (involves pouring from bottles that weigh up to 3 lbs each)

  • Receiving and entering inventory

  • Using our computer database system to complete customer orders 

  • Troubleshooting with practitioners that are using our online services 

  • Office tasks: answering the phone, taking messages, filing paperwork, managing the email inbox, booking appointments for our practitioners 

  • Janitorial responsibilities 

  • Operating the point of sale system, over the phone billing, shipping orders 

  • Stocking herbs, bottles, merchandise, etc.; may require lifting boxes weighing up to 30 lbs

  • Taking responsibility for 1 or more retail sections, including ordering and inventory management of that section (ie, books, supplements, etc) 

  • Set up & break down for occasional classes (setting out chairs, moving tables, supporting facilitator, greeting participants, fielding logistical questions, may involve lifting chairs weighing 8 lbs or tables up to 30 lbs)

Training, Background & Skills 

Required: 

  • At least 1 year retail customer service or herbal pharmacy 

  • Experience with Western herbs and Chinese herbs/formulas, including familiarity with botanical terms, Latin nomenclature, and pin yin 

  • Broad experience with supplements and nutrition 

  • Basic computing skills (Microsoft Word & Excel), basic math skills including algebra & unit conversions (ie, convert grams to oz, convert % of formula to mls) 

  • Must be able to lift up to 30lbs

Preferred: 

  • Clinical herbal experience 

  • Sales and outreach experience 

  • Social media, SEO, web and graphic design experience are a plus 

  • Bachelor's degree 

  • College-level coursework in chemistry, general biology, botany, anatomy & physiology 

  • Spanish or Chinese language skills are a plus
